Camphor oil has been used for thousands of years in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Ayurveda. It has a high cineole content and the main chemical constituents of Camphor Essential Oil are: a-Pinene, Camphene, Limonene, 1,8-Cineole, and p-Cymene.

a-Pinene is a known expectorant, Camphene is an antioxidant and anti-inflammatory, Limonene is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant and a stimulant, 1,8-Cineole is anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, an expectorant and a stimulant, and p-Cymene has sedative, soothing, anti-inflammatory properties. Camphor oil is known to have effective antifungal and antimicrobial properties which can protect against contagious viruses. Camphor oil is a middle perfumery note. It is a known insect and moth repellant. The oil is beneficial to oily skin.

Common Uses

Camphor oil has a clean and powerful scent. It is used in aromatherapy to soothe symptoms of colds, flu and bronchial congestion. It is a valued ingredient in products to provide relief from cold and flu symptoms. A deeply penetrating oil that stimulates circulation and with its cooling and soothing properties, it is widely used in products for muscular aches and pains and also arthritis. It is useful in products for insect bite and sting relief. Can be used in hair products to stimulate hair growth and improve scalp health. It is used in diffusers and air freshening products. Camphor oil is an Insect and moth repellant. Used in skin products aimed at oily skin.

Cinnamomum camphora is a tall evergreen tree with large glossy green leaves. The tree is native to China, Japan and Taiwan but has now been introduced to many other countries. Camphor oil is produced by steam distillation of the woody parts and has a clean, powerful, woody aroma. A versatile oil, it is widely known for its uses in products for muscular aches and pains and in those that provide relief for coughs and colds.
