Common Uses

Patchouli oil is commonly used as a skin application for its anitbacterial and antifungal activity. It has anti-inflammatory properties also used for skin care products and pain relief. Patchouli oil is used as an insecticide and for weight loss.

Massage:
Added to massage oil, Patchouli can uplift a negative mood, promote relaxation, ease tension, soothe inflammation, improve cognitive function and stimulate libido.

Skincare:
Cosmetically, this oil can be added other oils, gels, lotions, soaps, shampoos, and sprays. Topically applied with a cream, oil or lotion, to hands, neck, stomach or temples, this oil can have a cooling effect and help reduce body temperature during fever. It can be beneficial in improving complexion, making the skin feel healthy and smooth. It can help by moisturizing, tightening and toning the skin, reducing blemishes and wrinkles. Added to fractionated coconut oil it can be beneficial to all skin types to relieve dryness and to balance oily and acne-prone skin. It can help speed up healing of wounds and minimize scarring. dermatitis, acne, or dry, cracked skin.

Homecare:
Patchouli is a natural relaxing air freshener, perfect for the bedroom when added to a spray together with equal parts Orange essential oil and diluted with warm water. Due to its antifungal and antiseptic properties, this mix is also great for cleaning kitchen counters, walls and floors.

Haircare:
Added to your shampoo this oil has been known to strengthen the hair and by adding it to your conditioner it can be helpful for scalp problems dry scalp dandruff.

Patchouli Oil (Pogostemon cablin), sometimes called "the scent of the sixties," has a musky, earthy, exotic aroma. Native to Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines, Patchouli is now cultivated in tropical and sub-tropical regions around the world. The oil is widely used as a fragrance in India and as an insect repellent. Patchouli is used in herbal medicine in Asia as an aphrodisiac, antidepressant and antiseptic. It is also used for headaches and fever. Its aphrodisiac effects come from it having a very similar molecular structure to human pheromones.

Patchouli essential oil is often used in aromatherapy to treat skin complaints. It is thought to have a regenerative effect on skin tone and to help clear conditions such as eczema and acne. The oil may also be used for varicose veins, acne, cold sores, skin irritations, prophylactic, fungicidal and haemorrhoids.
