Common Uses

Properties:
Myrrh essential oil is best known for its beneficial effect on the skin but also helps to support the body's respiratory, digestive and immune systems helping to fight viruses and bacteria.

Skin:
Myrrh essential oil helps support the skin's natural regenerative process and is beneficial for mature skin, sun damage, dry patches and for areas of poor texture and tone. It also supports skin healing and can be helpful for wounds, chapped and cracked skin, athlete's foot, acne and most other skin conditions.

Respiratory System:
Myrrh has an affinity with the respiratory system helping to clear ailments such as colds, catarrh, coughs, sore throats and bronchitis.

Body:
It is also helpful for digestive problems and female-related conditions including absent periods, leucorrhea and thrush.

Diffuser/Aromatherapy:
Emotionally, Myrrh Oil is grounding and helps to mellow out the emotions. It is used in blends to enhance spirituality, for meditation and is popular at Christmas for room fragrancing. As myrhh can be quite harsh the aroma of frankincense works well to round out and balance the aroma of Myrrh.

Bergamot, Clary Sage, Frankincense Serrata, Lemon, Lavender, Mandarin, Peppermint, Geranium, Grapefruit Pink, Patchouli, Rose, Sandalwood Australian, Tea Tree, Thyme, Pine, Rosewood, Juniper and cypress.

Myrrh is a small tree/shrub with knotted branches, aromatic leaves, and white flowers. Myrrh essential oil is steam distilled from the harvested resin of the tree. The myrrh tree is native to Arabia, northern Africa, South Western Asia and the region around the Red Sea, especially Ethiopia, Somalia and Yemen. Historians believe that myrrh grew in the Tigris and Euphrates valleys, now thought to be the site of the biblical Garden of Eden. Today, most Myrrh is obtained from the Middle East, particularly Iran.

Myrrh essential oil is considered a precious oil and has been treasured by almost every civilization for over four thousand years. Myrrh was used in embalming by the Egyptians and has a long history of use in both traditional Chinese medicine and Indian Ayurvedic practices. In Christianity, Gold, Frankincense and Myrrh were the gifts given to the baby Jesus by the three wise men.

Myrrh Essential Oil is used most often for spiritual and incense applications, and it is heralded for its contribution to oral health. You can find toothpastes, mouth rinses and other natural oral care products that contain Myrrh Essential Oil and/or the powderized resin.
